The Edge of Uncertainty

Have you all seen the new Netflix series, Chef's Table?!  We've caught a few episodes and are in love with the stories, the cinematography and of course the food.  We recently watched the episode about Francis Mallmann-a famous chef who lives in Patagonia and centers his life around cooking in an outdoor, simplistic environment. The food he prepares is truly prolific, yet simple at the same time...the same can be said about his life.

At the end of the episode, Francis leaves us with these words, which are captured in the clip above...

"My life has been a path at the edge of uncertainty.  Today I think we educate kids to be settled in the comfortable chair.  You have your job, your car, you have a place to sleep and the dreams are dead. You don’t grow on a secure path.  All of us should conquer something in life and it needs a lot of work and it needs a lot of risk.  In order to grow and to improve, you have to be there…at the edge of uncertainty."

I think often we slip into a state of doing what feels safe and comfortable, which can lead to a mundane life.  And though this may be enough for some, the thrill of life is getting out, seeing, doing, discovering and taking risks.  This episode was a great reminder that in order to make a change and live a saturated life, we will need to undergo many scary and uncomfortable moments. It's how we stretch, grown and become. It is up to embrace the risk, uncertainty and thrill of living out our dreams.

What scary, risky, thrilling things have you done recently?
