Project: Homemade Yogurt

IMG_6761Well that was easy!  1/2 gallon of milk and a small container of store-bought yogurt was all it took for me to make a whole batch of my very own homemade yogurt!  I followed this recipe, which was easy to follow and had great explanations for each step.  The gist is you heat the milk to prevent separation, then cool it, mix with the store-bought yogurt (which provides the cultures you need), then let sit for several hours. So simple! I didn't really know what fresh yogurt tasted like, but now I can assure you its delicious!  Its subtly sweet and light enough that you can eat it without adding sweeteners.  Speaking of sweeteners, do you know how difficult it is to find plain old yogurt these days?  It took me a good 5 minutes to find a yogurt with nothing added.  It seems the majority of yogurt in the stores have been dowsed with sugar disguised as fruit.  Sneaky, sneaky!

Anyways, now that I've made my first batch, I can use it to culture my future batches. Its a recipe that keeps on giving!
