Art + Layers

Layers are everything. Layers make us complex, interesting, complicated, strong. They add depth to our lives and they make us all unique. We all have our own layers...our own stories. The layers of people and places and situations that we've all faced and added to our life stories. They form us into who we are. They build tenacity, they build interest and they build life. This is why I love painting in layers. I feel that layers in my art are a reflection of layers in my life: messy, unpredictable and brilliant. Each layer takes time to build and time to adhere. Some are strong while others are better suited to stay underneath. The more I add, the more complex my artwork gets. When I work in layers, I am forced to slow down and step back. They can easily get out of control and cause chaos, which I have learned to welcome because it is in the chaos that things often come together. Looking closely may be overwhelming, but when I step back a bit, I see a completed piece.  One that stands strong and has a story to tell. Let the layers of your life build & become, because one day you will step back & see how they've come together to make your life beautiful.
